Marketing For Introverts
At the local author expo with my daughter (and aspiring author), Elizabeth. It might surprise you to know that I am an introvert. This presents some unique challenges to a self-published author like myself. When you’re self-published, you’re not only in charge of the introvert-friendly roles like writing, editing, and publishing. You’re also responsible for the marketing, which is really more a field for extroverts. Marketing includes a lot of tasks that are just simply not in my wheelhouse. I dislike marketing so much that I even looked into going the traditionally published route to try to get out of it. Unfortunately, these days publishers want you to have active social media accounts, attend book signings, and be interviewed on podcasts.

Come See Me at the Local Author Expo
My local library will be hosting a Local Author Expo tomorrow, July 18, from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. If you're in the area (it's about an hour north of Orlando), please come say hi! I'll have my books set up at a table, and I'd absolutely love to meet you! I'm also signing copies, if you'd like one. My friend and poet Brendan Dunlop will also be there. Check out his Instagram here.

Overcoming Weight Loss Obstacles [Excerpt]
Introduction Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. -Arnold Schwarzenegger We all wish that the road to our goal weight could be freshly paved, straight, flat, and clearly marked with new paint. And if we could have a detailed, easy to read map that would show us exactly what to do at each fork in the road, it would also be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, the actual road is made out of dirt which sometimes turns to mud, with steep hills, hairpin curves, and potholes and obstructions all along the way. Once in a great while, the road straightens out and everything gets easier until the next thing you know, you’re deep in a dark forest and the road seems to have disappeared out from underneath you. You find yourself wondering how to proceed, or if you even want to.

The Laid Back Guide to Intermittent Fasting [Excerpt]
Introduction Become a possibilitarian. No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see possibilities -- always see them, for they're always there. -Norman Vincent Peale What if you could eat whatever you wanted and still lose weight? It sounds too good to be true if you’re a chronic dieter like I was. I always wished I could eat the same foods everyone else was enjoying and stay at a healthy weight. But that was never my reality. In order to lose weight, I always had to stop eating the foods I loved. Whenever I went back to eating those foods, I inevitably packed the pounds back on. The idea that I could actually lose weight while still eating my favorite foods seemed like a pipedream. Then I discovered intermittent fasting, and my lifelong weight loss dream came true.

The Laid Back Guide to Weight Loss Maintenance [Excerpt]
Introduction Ut est rerum omnium magister usus. (Experience is the teacher of all things.) -Julius Caesar Who Am I To Write a Book on Maintenance? I am not a doctor. Or a nutritionist. And I’m certainly not a dietician. So what on earth makes me think I should write a book about weight loss maintenance? It’s not a proposition I took lightly, considering my failure rate in this area. I dieted throughout most of my childhood and teenage years. Sometimes I was thinner, sometimes I was chunkier, but I could never stick in a healthy weight range for very long.

A Thing I Learned About Diligence
For quite some time, I’ve wanted to learn Latin. "Why would you want to learn a dead language?" you may ask. It's a fair question. And I don't quite know the answer. What I do know is that I’m a scanner by nature, which means I have a lot of interests and hobbies. Sometimes I do deep dives on subjects, but most of the time I go an inch deep and a mile wide. For years I felt bad about my jack-of-all-trades approach to the world, until I read Barbara Sher’s book Refuse to Choose.
